| Breaking News |  | Sunday, June 20th, 2010: Tigers Nelson to Miss 1-2 Weeks Chris Nelson of the Detroit Tigers could be headed for the disabled list after suffering back spasms in a game against the Minnesota Twins. He is expected to miss at least 1-2 weeks. The Detroit shortstop was injured colliding with a player at a base. Nelson said, "Right now I am pretty sore and I don't feel very good at all."
So far in 2010 Nelson is batting .229 with 6 home runs, 36 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 51 hits in 223 at-bats and a .319 OBP. |  | Saturday, June 12th, 2010: Detroit Holds Padres Scoreless In an almost effortless performance, Justin Verlander of the Tigers shot down the Padres 6-0 on a 4-hit shutout.
His skipper said, "Justin was just locating so well and using his pitches...not leaving anything over the plate."
Verlander recorded 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
In the postgame press conference, the San Diego manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."
Verlander has gone 9-2 this season with an ERA of 2.91 and 121 strikeouts in 105 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .219 against him. |  | Friday, June 11th, 2010: San Diego Trades Van Hekken to Detroit for Street Officials for the San Diego Padres confirmed that they have traded 30-year old starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken to the Detroit Tigers. In return, the Padres will receive 27-year old reliever Huston Street.
In 12 starts this year Van Hekken has recorded a 5-5 record and a 4.37 ERA.
Street has taken the hill fpr 17 relief appearances this season, nailing down 2 saves while notching a 2-1 record with a 5.29 ERA.
