| Breaking News |  | Monday, September 29th, 2008: Sheldon Week's #1 Player It was a fantastic week for Cleveland first baseman Ole Sheldon and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the AL Player of the Week Award.
Last week Sheldon hammered the ball at a torrid .550 pace, going 11-20 with 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and 9 runs scored.
Sheldon is currently batting .326 with 29 home runs and 94 RBIs. |  | Thursday, September 11th, 2008: Kelton Raps Cleveland for 5 Hits After the Kansas City 18-10 victory over Cleveland and his 5-hit day first baseman Dave Kelton told SION beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good...three or four hits even better...5 or more are out of sight...and if it is in pro ball...it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 28-year-old player gained that distinction today at Kauffman Stadium with a spectacular 5 for 6 game against the Cleveland Indians.
The skipper of the Royals spoke glowingly of Kelton, telling SION writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Dave did that to perfection today."
D. Kelton hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.
To date this year Kelton is batting .277 with 26 home runs. |  | Tuesday, August 19th, 2008: Indians Lose Chris Ray Cleveland fans will be disappointed to learn that Chris Ray developed a torn bicep muscle while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Cleveland Indians manager that Ray was expected to miss 2-3 months, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the closer could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
Looking at his pitching stats so far this season, Ray has 34 relief appearances, pitched 46.2 innings and fashioned a 2-2 record with a 3.28 ERA.
