This spring he was overjoyed at just making the Chicago (A) roster. Not only did he make the team, he was the starting third baseman.
Then it got even better. In his debut season Gordon hit .290 with 173 hits in 596 at-bats, 38 home runs, 101 RBIs, walked 91 times and had a .386 OBP. Numbers healthy enough to be honored with the American League Rookie of the Year Award.
He will pick up his trophy as the league's top newcomer this weekend at the annual SION awards dinner. | _White_Sox.png) | Saturday, September 20th, 2008: Red-Hot Almonte Scorches Mariners Today the Mariners downed the White Sox 9-7, but Erick Almonte did his best to avoid it as he lashed hits all over U.S. Cellular Field in a 5-hit explosion, finishing up with 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," the Chicago (A) shortstop said to SION reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."
Asked if he had a hitting philosophy, Almonte said, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of good pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."
E. Almonte singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off D. Rasner in the 9th.
Almonte is presently hitting at a .212 pace with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has played in 120 games and scored 39 times. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 42-120, .259 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 81.0 GB | | Record at home | 29-52, .358 PCT | | Record on the road | 13-68, .160 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-10, .333 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-26, .316 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 13-31, .295 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 29-89, .246 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 1-9, .100 PCT | | Record in April | 8-17, .320 PCT | | Record in May | 6-23, .207 PCT | | Record in June | 7-18, .280 PCT | | Record in July | 8-19, .296 PCT | | Record in August | 7-21, .250 PCT | | Record in September | 6-22, .214 PCT |
