There was nobody finer on the mound in May and Wes Whisler cruised to the American - A Pitcher of the Month award today.
He was 5-2 with a 2.90 ERA while piling up 21 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .247 batting average.
In 2008 Whisler has compiled a 7-2 record with a 2.64 ERA in 5 starts.

Joseph Kantakevich of the Kinston Indians is the American - A Pitcher of the Month.
In April he sparkled and shined on the mound with 6 wins and no losses in 8 starts.
Kantakevich checked opposing batters on 51 base hits and a .227 batting average. He rang up 20 strikeouts in 61 innings of work, surrendered 20 walks and fashioned a 2.07 ERA.

Denard Span put together a good April to earn the American - A Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Kinston officials that he belongs on the big league roster.
