Speaking after the game, the Tampa Bay manager said, "Johan Santana had everything going for him. He controlled their bat speed, stayed down, had a lot of movement... he had it all...masterful."

Santana held the Oakland Athletics to 1 hit and fashioned a fine 7-0 shutout. He had 1 walk and 11 strikeouts in the game.

"We couldn't get anything going. He certainly had our number," the Oakland skipper told reporters.
