| Breaking News | | Monday, July 28th, 2008: Week's Best Player Honored by IL What's in a number? In baseball, just about everything.
The numbers that Norfolk's Kevin Collins stacked up last week were the envy of the league, as Collins came away with International League Player of the Week honors.
He belted out 10 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs last week as he posted his .435 batting average.
This year Collins is hitting .306 with 122 hits, 19 home runs, 70 RBIs and has scored 60 runs. | | Wednesday, June 25th, 2008: Richmond Shuts Out Norfolk In an outstanding mound performance, Adam Loewen of the Richmond Braves scuttled the Norfolk Tides 3-0 on a 6-hit shutout, ringing up 8 strikeouts and giving up no walks.
"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Norfolk manager said after the game.
"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."
In 2008 Loewen has a 4-6 record with a 3.27 ERA in 17 starts. | | Saturday, June 14th, 2008: Tides Fernando Nieve Injured: Day-to-Day Norfolk's star reliever Fernando Nieve injured himself in a game against the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees, prompting the team to list him as day-to-day. The doctors are reporting the injury as a damaged meniscus and the best medicine is a short period of rest. "Hopefully I don't get replaced by some hotshot wannabe," said Nieve with a smile as he talked to SION reporters.
Nieve has made 2 relief appearances this year and notched no saves. To date in 76.1 innings he has a 3-6 record, 6.25 ERA with 51 strikeouts and 11 walks. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 72-72, .500 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 35-37, .486 PCT | | Record on the road | 37-35, .514 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-8, .273 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 22-24, .478 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 50-48, .510 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record in May | 10-19, .345 PCT | | Record in June | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in July | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in August | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in September | 1-1, .500 PCT |
