Monday, September 1st, 2008: AL Trophy Goes to Morneau of Baltimore
The Baltimore Orioles received word today that first baseman Justin Morneau was selected AL Player of the Week for his stellar performance in last week's games.

Morneau took full advantage of all 27 plate appearances last week as he hit .444 with 12 hits, 4 home runs, 7 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

So far this year Morneau has hit .280 with 25 home runs, 61 RBIs and scored 71 runs.
Thursday, August 14th, 2008: Bang Up Game! Morneau Slams 3 Homers!
Baltimore first baseman Justin Morneau sensed he was going to have a good game at the plate, but he underestimated just a little bit. Prior to the game, Morneau predicted he would hit a home run against the New York (A) Yankees.

During batting practice he told his teammates, "I really got my swing down pat. I feel some thunder in the lumber. I'm gonna get me a home run in this game."

He was right. He did hit a home run -- three of them, in fact -- pacing the Orioles over the Yankees 7-6.

"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Morneau told SION reporters after the game.

To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.

J. Morneau hit a solo-shot off C. Buchholz in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off C. Buchholz in the 4th, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Woods in the 11th.

Thus far in 2008 Morneau is batting .266 with 20 home runs, 48 RBIs and 59 runs scored.
Thursday, August 14th, 2008: Beattie Hurt, Out for 1-2 Weeks
The Orioles received bad news this morning. Eric Beattie will miss 1-2 weeks due to a tender shoulder. In the Baltimore-New York (A) game he sustained the injury while throwing a pitch. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Beattie sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."

On his 2008 stats sheet Beattie shows a 14-5 record, 26 starts, 198 innings, 211 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA.
