Baltimore first baseman Justin Morneau sensed he was going to have a good game at the plate, but he underestimated just a little bit. Prior to the game, Morneau predicted he would hit a home run against the New York (A) Yankees.
During batting practice he told his teammates, "I really got my swing down pat. I feel some thunder in the lumber. I'm gonna get me a home run in this game."
He was right. He did hit a home run -- three of them, in fact -- pacing the Orioles over the Yankees 7-6.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Morneau told SION reporters after the game.
To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
J. Morneau hit a solo-shot off C. Buchholz in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off C. Buchholz in the 4th, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Woods in the 11th.
Thus far in 2008 Morneau is batting .266 with 20 home runs, 48 RBIs and 59 runs scored. | | Thursday, August 14th, 2008: Beattie Hurt, Out for 1-2 Weeks The Orioles received bad news this morning. Eric Beattie will miss 1-2 weeks due to a tender shoulder. In the Baltimore-New York (A) game he sustained the injury while throwing a pitch. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Beattie sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."
On his 2008 stats sheet Beattie shows a 14-5 record, 26 starts, 198 innings, 211 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Luis Rivas | torn calf muscle | 1-2 weeks | 2 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | P Orlando Hernandez | torn tricep muscle | 8 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | Pitching Staff | | Role | Throws | Pitcher | W | L | SV | ERA | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 89-74, .546 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 1.0 GB | | Record at home | 47-35, .573 PCT | | Record on the road | 42-39, .519 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-9, .471 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 31-32, .492 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-14, .576 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 70-60, .538 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 17-10, .630 PCT | | Record in May | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in June | 11-15, .423 PCT | | Record in July | 20-8, .714 PCT | | Record in August | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in September | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record in October | 0-1, .000 PCT |
