Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009: Finch Fires Shutout in Yankees Win
Brian Finch of the New York (A) Yankees shut out the Baltimore Orioles 1-0, stopped them on 1 hit and had 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.

After the game his manager said, "He just came out and was on the attack from the first pitch he threw. When Brian stays ahead in the count, he does well. That's the key."

To date in 2009, Finch sports a 1-1 mark with a 2.83 ERA in 2 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .155 batting average and has 17 strikeouts in 28.2 innings.
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009: Orioles Shut Out Indians, Patterson Winner
John Patterson allowed 5 hits while giving up no walks and collecting 10 strikeouts as Baltimore blanked Cleveland 4-0.

In the postgame interview Patterson said, "I'm trying to keep the ball down and let guys put it in play. It worked for me today."

This season Patterson has compiled a 7-5 mark with a 4.16 ERA in 12 starts.
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009: Beattie Nabs AL #1 Pitcher Award
Eric Beattie left little doubt in the minds of American League officials that he should be named August's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.

"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Beattie. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."

The 27-year-old tossed 50 innings of quality baseball -- going 6-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 54 strikeouts.

Thus far this season, Beattie has worked 216.2 innings with 240 strikeouts en route to a 18-3 record and a 2.16 ERA.
