Hector Gimenez, the talented Arkansas catcher, certainly made his name known among Texas League hurlers this past season. He hammered them for 148 hits and a .375 batting average, 22 doubles, 1 triple, 25 home runs, 91 RBIs and scored 90 times.
That kind of hitting earned him the Texas League TEX MVP for 2008.
This weekend the SION Baseball Writers Association will present the trophy to Gimenez for being the TEX's top-rated batter. He will receive it at its annual awards dinner.

 | Thursday, October 9th, 2008: Travelers Star Wins TEX Pitcher of the Year
Travis Hughes had a terrific 2008 season in the Texas League. The Arkansas pitching stalwart received the most votes and has been proclaimed this year's TEX Pitcher of the Year winner.
The Travelers ace starred with an impressive 20-6 record. In 29 starts he gave up 155 base hits and struck out 196 in 229.2 innings with a 2.47 ERA. Teams could only hit .188 against him.
The SION Baseball Writers Association will honor all of the award winners this weekend at its annual meeting.
