Shawn O'Malley has been in a real groove lately. The 21-year-old Mobile Bay Bears shortstop nabbed Southern League Player of the Week honors today after beating up on opposing pitchers all last week.
O'Malley's hot streak featured 7 hits in 13 at-bats, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs, 5 runs scored and a .538 average.

 | Friday, April 3rd, 2009: No-Hitter for Barthmaier!
West Tenn's Jimmy Barthmaier was right on the mark today at Ballpark of West Tenn in a sensational no-hitter against the Mississippi Braves, shutting them down 2-0.
He chalked up 11 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk in a game he could really brag about. "You might say I was the best pitcher in the league today and you would be right."
Barthmaier has offended some fans and sportswriters with confidence that sometimes borders on arrogance.
The West Tenn skipper told reporters in the postgame interview, "He tossed a masterpiece today and it ain't braggin' if you can back it up. Today he certainly did just that."
A SION reporter asked Barthmaier if he thought the fans would appreciate his perceived greatness after this game. With a big grin on his face, he quickly quipped, "Listen, if you start worrying about the people in the stands, before too long you're up in the stands with them."

 | Friday, April 3rd, 2009: Montgomery's Tiffany Shines, Shuts Out Jacksonville
"Chuck Tiffany is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Montgomery hurler tossed a complete game 4-hit shutout against the Jacksonville Suns.
"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Tiffany. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
Tiffany walked 2 and struck out 8 in the 4-0 victory.
