 | Tuesday, July 7th, 2009: Lee Belts 5 Hits! On top of the Boston hit parade today was Carlos Lee. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Red Sox to a 8-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-5 performance. The sweet swinging left fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." The skipper of the Indians wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." C. Lee singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off K. McMurry in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Danks in the 9th. This year Lee has hit 7 home runs and posted a .236 batting average. |
